Tasmanian Polar Network
The Tasmanian Polar Network Inc. (TPN) consists of managers and directors of government,
research, education and commercial facilities involved in a wide range of Antarctic-related activities.
Established in 1993 by the Tasmanian Government, the TPN works in conjunction with the
Australian Antarctic Division, the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC and private industry suppliers of polar products.
While previous groups had been established to discuss Tasmania's role in Antarctic matters,
the TPN was the first group to focus on promoting Hobart's status as
Australia's Antarctic capital.

Any Tasmanian-based organisation that has an interest or involvement in Polar activities is invited to
become a member of the Tasmanian Polar Network.
Benefits of membership
A unique blend of industry, government and research bodies, the Tasmanian Polar Network
provides a strong, united voice for the suppliers of cold region goods and services.
As the only Tasmanian based representative body for providers of cold region expertise,
the TPN provides its members with an effective conduit into the supply chain of many
of the major Antarctic institutions that call Hobart home.
The TPN does this by:
- providing a strong, united voice for Tasmanian-based suppliers of cold region goods and services
- aggressively promoting company capacity and capability to service the unique Antarctic requirements of these major institutions
- encouraging closer communications and relationships between buyers and suppliers of cold region goods and services
Objectives
The TPN's central aim is to work cooperatively to instigate and implement projects
specifically focussed on enhancing Hobart's status as a major resupply and
departure port for Antarctica, the sub-Antarctic and Southern Ocean.
The TPN's mission is to:
- promote Hobart as an international centre of excellence for the supply of cold climate goods and services
- be the supply network of choice to operators in the Antarctic, sub-Antarctic and Southern Ocean
| |
Objectives include:
- increasing overseas and Australian expenditure on supplies and services related to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean
